What is the living regenerative cornea replacement for pets?

If cells can be harvested from either eye, a very small quantity (1-2 mm) of the patient's non-affected eye's cornea is collected, cultured and grown on a specially coated cell culture dish UpCell® . Cultured cornea cells are then harvested as a convenient sheet and transplanted to the patient.

Even if both eyes are affected, their eyes can still be cured by using other dogs/cats' regenerated cornea which are re-produced under strict quality control.

Therapeutic application for pet corneal replacement

Currently, this CellSeed product has been shown effective for treating damaged corneas epithelium in dogs and cats.

What are the advantages of CellSeed's living regenerative cornea for pets?

Dogs and cats have a unique nictitating membrane not present in human eyes. Depending on the circumstances, it is possible to repair damaged pet cornea by flapping this nictitating membrane. The cost of surgery is reasonable, though varying between veterinarians.

The major disadvantage of this approach is that it will definitely leave a noticeable scar on the eyes.

Moreover, certain corneal injuries cannot be cured by a surgical flap of the nictitating membrane.

By contrast, regenerative living corneal transplants apply to the entire cultured replacement cornea to the pet's eyes. This application is much more versatile than the surgical flap of nictitating membrane. Moreover, the replacement surgery is rarely noticeable since the entire damaged cornea is replaced with an entirely new cornea.
*Regenerative cornea therapy may not be applicable in some cases. Please contact veterinarian below for further information.
