Q. What is different from 3D cell culture gel which also utilizes temperature responsive polymer?

The advantages of our product are as follows:

You can culture epidermal cells and achieve multiple-layered cell-sheet which is essentially 3D with UpCell. In addition, you can collect confluent cells as a single "cell-sheet" by just reducing the temperature. The polymer is fixed to the surface of the dish by covalent binding therefore there will be no left over of polymer to the collected cells and tissues.

You can culture endothelial cells with UpCell.

The fibronectin of collected tissues is kept intact therefore no suture is required when they are transplanted to patients. The "cell-sheet" releases above average amount of cytokines therefore it is very effective as a healing method.

Q. Why do the cells detach when temperature is lowered?

The surface of the plate coated with PIPAAm becomes hydrophilic under 32°C. Hydrophilic surface means that the surface of the dish which cells were attaching gradually disappears therefore cells come off easily without damaging fibronectin.
