We are pursuing fundamental and applied development of nano-bio interface technology, the platform technology that supports tissue engineering of cell sheets for regenerative medicine. For our UpCell® temperature-responsive cultureware for cell sheet harvesting, and HydroCell® ultra-low attachment cell cultureware, CellSeed is pursuing global marketing and developing improved products for research purposes that aim for advanced performance and multiple functionality. Demand for nano-bio interface technology applications is growing, and in addition to the typical applications for cell cultureware, and we are extending development to induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells), which have attracted substantial attention in recent years. We are also engaged in the design and development of cultureware applications directed towards the realization of cell sheet engineering for regenerative medicine.
We have established a laboratory in the Tokyo Women's Medical University - Waseda University Joint Institution for Advanced Biomedical Sciences (TWIns), which opened in April 2008. The Institute of Advanced BioMedical Engineering and Science, Tokyo Women's Medical University, the pioneer of cell sheet engineering, and other collaborators have also established presences and close linkages within this institution. In this laboratory, our development activities are directed towards the realization of regenerative cell sheet products, focusing on engineered cell sheets of various types such as corneal epithelium and cardiac patches, from methods for their manufacture and assessment of their characteristics, to the assessment of their safety and stability as cell or tissue-engineered products.
